Description

JERUSALEM WAY stamp (Dom / Cathedral of Vienna) JERUSALEM WAY stamp (Dom / Cathedral of Vienna)

Vienna is a city with an extensive history and many sights! For "this stage" at least 2 days should be planned as a "culture day" in order to be able to visit a few sights such as Schönbrunn Palace, Heldenplatz, Hofburg, St. Stephen's Cathedral, etc. and to be able to at least immerse yourself in the flair of the Austrian capital. With almost 1,9 million inhabitants, Vienna is the largest Danube city next to Budapest and at the same time the second largest city on the long way to Jerusalem (only Izmir in TR, ancient Smyrna, has more inhabitants). Optionally, you could of course also take public transport to the cathedral, but we recommend walking the path and entering the city. If possible, the Jerusalemweg route leads through car-free or traffic-calmed areas and offers a lot of culture and sights. A tip, for example, for overnight stays, in the hostel «DoStepInn» Tel. +43 1 9823314 there are inexpensive rooms in Vienna and in the Mariahilferbräu, located directly on Jerusalemweg in Mariahilfer Str. 152, inexpensive and very good food, of course also large Viennese schnitzel.

Important: In St. Stephen's Cathedral there is the JERUSALEMWEG stamp with dove of peace for our pilgrim pass! The stamp is in the shop, it is in the cathedral on the left by the entrance area. Speaking of pilgrim stamps, attached a photo with Jerusalemweg / JERUSALEM WAY pilgrim stamps from Austria: At least we should have these stamps in our passport when we have crossed all of Austria.

After exploring the cathedral and the center of Vienna, the route leads over the Danube Canal and on to the landmark of Vienna, the Ferris wheel with the famous Prater and refreshments. As a result, we appropriately cross the Danube Canal again at Friedensgasse, now along its right-hand side until we reach the center of Schwechat at the end of this cultural stage.
