Every journey begins with a first step ...

The Jerusalem Way is the world's longest pilgrimage and an international peace and culture route!

The Jerusalem Way connects religions and peoples in a unique peace project.

The Jerusalem Way stands for mutual recognition and tolerance.

Love, the most powerful force in the universe, penetrates, illuminates everything and builds bridges between all people!

Pilgrims create openness to encounters, dismantle prejudices and fears, and strengthen trust - basic trust. The supposed boundaries between peoples and religions can be bridged by individuals with love and mutual respect.

Important information about the route in Hungary

The route from the Austrian border at Halbturn often runs in the area of the Way of St. James in Hungary, so there are hostels and other places to sleep for pilgrims all the way to Budapest.

For the further route from BUDPEST towards BORDER CROATIA / SERBIA, we have a cooperation with the HUNGARIAN PILGRIMAGE Magyar Zarandokut (MZ). It was agreed that pilgrims with the Jerusalem Way Pilgrim's Passport can sleep cheaply in their hostels. Hostels are available all the way down the Danube from Budapest to the town of Baja. From Baja it is only a day's leg to the Hungarian border town of Mohács, the border triangle of Croatia and Serbia! And for pilgrims who do not come from the direction of Vienna but, for example, from Poland, the Czech Republic or Slovakia, there are also hostels from MZ from Esztergom (Gran) to Budapest!

Accommodation / hostels

Here in German a short Summary of the accommodations (PDF). And here on the Hungarian website are all accommodations to be found (automatic translation by Google). In the winter months the hostels are usually closed in Hungary!

Our Hungarian partner wants every pilgrim to also have their Hungarian MZ pilgrim pass, this is symbolic and every pass issued is important for their organization. The special price for Jerusalem pilgrims is only 500 HUF = about 1,50 euros! The pass is also a good reminder and souvenir of the journey through Hungary.

In the small villages it is good to send an SMS to the hostel a day before arrival, because sometimes they are closed, not home or the person in charge has to open the house and therefore needs to know when the pilgrim is coming. Sometimes English is not spoken in small places, so it is good to know a few words in Hungarian:

Where's the albergue? = Get van a zarandoksalasch?

I am a pilgrim Zarandok vagyok

Where am i now = Get vagyok mosch?

I need help! = Shegicheget kerek!

Here you can get the Hungarian pilgrim pass
