We pilgrimage towards Jerusalem through Austria, thereby contributing to tourism and the hospitality industry. Traveling on foot and by train/bus on the international peace and culture route right across Austria!
Pilgrimage is a sustainable way to find balance, especially in times of crisis, be it due to Corona or other personal life circumstances.
This is deliberately an ecological journey; not only do we travel on foot as pilgrims, but also our arrival and departure, as well as the distances between hiking stages, are covered – as far as possible – by train or other public transport.
A unique opportunity: in 10 days, we experience all of Austria from west to east, heading towards the sun from the Arlberg to Lake Neusiedl / our destination, Halbturn Castle / Hungarian border (the route is approximately 800 km).
Some highlights of our journey are:
Klostertal, Arlberg, Pitztal with the Benni-Raich suspension bridge, the largest freestanding bell in the Northern Alps / Peace Bell Mösern enthroned high above offering a great view of the Inn Valley, Innsbruck, Gnadenwald, St. Georgenberg one of the oldest and highest pilgrimage sites in Austria, the impressive Wolfsklamm gorge, Wilder Kaiser, evening winding down with a sunset hike in the Going / Stanglwirt area, a picture-perfect hike along the Saalach and through the impressive Innersbachklamm gorge, Salzburg, Wallersee, Lambach Abbey, Mauthausen concentration camp, Klammschlucht gorge / Clam Castle, the ancient Nadlingerhof where the very first Jerusalem Way stainless steel peace dove was erected, the impressively situated pilgrimage site Maria Taferl directly above the Danube, hike over gentle hills to the historically significant Artstetten Castle, UNESCO Melk Abbey and Wachau with Spitz / Dürnstein, Göttweig Abbey, Vienna, Lake Neusiedl, final hike from Neusiedl am See over the Kalvarienberg and various wine-growing regions via Gols to Halbturn Castle.

Note: In addition to registering for the entire journey from Arlberg to Halbturn Castle / Hungarian border, there is also the option to register for individual stages. The trip is planned so that we reach a train station daily, from where our minibus will provide shuttle service to and from the station if necessary. Maximum number of participants per day is 15 people.

Fitness & Equipment: Easy hikes for sure-footed pilgrims with average fitness. Hiking times throughout the day are approximately 4 to 6 hours / about 15 to 20 km. The route leads through easy to moderately difficult terrain, any ascents have a maximum of 500 meters in elevation gain in one stretch, and sufficient breaks are planned. We hike with a light daypack on hiking trails, forest paths, dirt roads, and partially asphalt. A minibus transports our main luggage.
The association “JERUSALEM WAY International Peace Team” assumes no liability; the organizer and pilgrimage guide are also not liable for any damages or accidents. Participation is at your own risk. Finally, we point out that all pilgrims must be in appropriate physical and mental condition.
The daily flat fee is €25 (for association members €20). This includes daily transport of main luggage by minibus to and from accommodations; complete organization and pilgrimage guidance; any necessary shuttle services to/from the train station and to/from accommodation, as well as the option to ride in the minibus if someone needs a break or wishes to complete a stage by vehicle for other reasons ;-)
We have organized and reserved mostly affordable accommodations for pilgrims at all stage locations. Whether guesthouse in the mountains, farm stay, monastery, educational center, inn, hotel, pension, castle inn, etc. These are examples of our accommodations.
Costs for accommodation & meals as well as for public transport are to be paid on site. An ÖBB Vorteilscard is recommended!
Sleeping bag not required! Rooms: Double or single rooms and breakfast have been organized for all accommodations!
