Roncesvalles – Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port

The final Spanish stage leads from Roncesvalles up to the Pyrenean ridge and across the border into France. Open heights, mountain pastures, and sweeping views accompany the path before the long descent to Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port begins. This marks the end of the Spanish section where the Jerusalem Way follows the Camino de Santiago in the opposite direction for long stretches. The many pilgrims heading west have given us new encounters with people from all over the world day after day. For many Camino pilgrims, Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port is the starting point of their journey; the atmosphere in the alleys is correspondingly lively. For Jerusalem Way pilgrims, the next major section opens up here: France and the onward journey to the east.
