Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port – Ostabat

From Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, the Jerusalem Way heads east through the green Basque Country. Across gentle hills, pastures and small villages, the route approaches Ostabat, a historic junction of several European pilgrimage routes. For many Camino pilgrims, the journey west begins in Saint-Jean; Jerusalem Way pilgrims leave the familiar flow of pilgrims in the opposite direction. This first stage in France combines Basque culture, wide views and the experience of a new beginning – step by step further into the European interior.
