Border North Macedonia – Axios Valley – Thessaloniki
After crossing the border, the Jerusalem Way follows the Axios region, the continuation of the Vardar, towards the Aegean and Thessaloniki. The city is a key place in Pauline history and, with the Rotunda, Hagios Demetrios, Hagia Sophia and the Vlatadon Monastery, preserves an extraordinary early Christian and Byzantine heritage. After the long overland routes of the Balkans, the great Mediterranean world opens up here for the first time.
