İskenderun – Amanos – Antakya / Antioch on the Orontes
From İskenderun, the last regular Turkey section leads through the Amanos Mountains region to Antakya, ancient Antioch on the Orontes. The city was a key place in early Christianity; it was here that the disciples were first called Christians. The St. Peter’s Grotto Church, built into the rock, is an important pilgrimage site. Antakya marks the end of the regularly approved Turkey route and the transition to the separately treated sensitive Syria corridor.
