Bruckhäusl – St. Johann in Tirol
Today’s stage is part of the shortcut that allows us to bypass the already mentioned loop of the Inn and, from Passau onwards, also leave the Danube to one side. The two rivers had to take this loop because the centre of it, in the Austrian-German border region, is occupied by an imposing section of the Alps. Even the name “Kaisergebirge” suggests that we are travelling through an area that lays claim to superlatives. Place names along the way and in the surrounding area, such as Oberndorf in Tirol or Kitzbühel, are also well known for mountain and winter sports. Up to Salzburg, we will hike through an alpine landscape that will stay with us.
