Personalities from politics, religion, sports & society support the peace project founded by the “Jerusalem Way Team”! In 2010, the two Upper Austrian police officers Johannes Aschauer and Otto Klär, along with former downhill world champion David Zwilling, went on a pilgrimage on foot from Upper Austria to Jerusalem, covering more than 4,500 km and arriving after 6 months. The long pilgrimage route led them for a month through what was then still a peaceful Syria, where they visited cities that are now heavily contested and destroyed, such as Damascus or Aleppo.
Now, with the support of numerous personalities such as Cardinal Schönborn, Bishop Schwarz, Cathedral Parish Priest Toni Faber, politicians like Interior Minister Johanna Mikl-Leitner, State Secretary Reinhold Lopatka, Governor Erwin Pröll, Governor Josef Pühringer, Governor Hans Niessl, Governor Wilfried Haslauer, MEP Josef Weidenholzer, MEP Othmar Karas, sports greats like Franz Klammer, Annemarie Moser-Pröll, Hansi Hinterseer, Alexandra Meisnitzer etc., this trio has started an international peace project intended to draw attention to the current situation in Syria. In this project, the entire international community is called upon to stand together for peace in this region. The kick-off for this is a short peace video created during their one-month journey through Syria.
The initiator Johannes Aschauer, his two fellow pilgrims, and the “Jerusalem Way Peace Team” they founded hope that this video with its message of peace will be spread worldwide to encourage as many people as possible to join this peace project. At the same time, further actions for peace in the region are to be carried out in the coming weeks and months.
On November 28, 2013, a peace march took place on the Jerusalem Way, including route marking, from Salzburg via Linz (Mariendom) and the Mauthausen concentration camp to Arbing. Arrival was on December 5, 2013 (approx. 200 km in total). THANK YOU TO THE MANY FELLOW PILGRIMS!
The highlight of this peace project will be—as soon as the situation in Syria allows—a peace march with international participation from Damascus through Syria to the Holy Land in Jerusalem.
