Villafranca del Bierzo – Ponferrada

From Villafranca del Bierzo, the route leads through the fertile landscape of El Bierzo to Cacabelos and continues via Camponaraya to Ponferrada. In Villafranca, the Iglesia de Santiago with its Puerta del Perdón commemorates those pilgrims who were unable to continue their journey to Santiago for health reasons. After that, vineyards, orchards, and historic pilgrimage sites characterize this relatively moderate stage.
