O Cebreiro – Villafranca del Bierzo

From O Cebreiro, the Jerusalem Way leads over the heights of the Montes de León and then descends far down into the Bierzo valley. Mountain villages, open ridges, forests, and wide views characterize this long stage. After crossing from Galicia, the landscape changes noticeably: the climate becomes milder, and the first vineyards accompany the route toward Villafranca del Bierzo. The historic pilgrimage town at the confluence of the Burbia and Valcarce rivers forms an impressive conclusion after more than a thousand meters of descent.
