Triacastela – O Cebreiro

One of Spain’s most impressive mountain stages begins from Triacastela. Passing through small villages and forested slopes, the Jerusalem Way climbs steadily into the Galician mountains. Alto do Poio and Alto de San Roque mark important high points; at San Roque, the famous pilgrim statue bracing against the wind serves as a reminder of the hardship and dignity of being on the road. Afterwards, you reach O Cebreiro. This historic mountain village, with its traditional pallozas and the church of Santa María la Real, sits high above the valleys and offers expansive views. The long ascent makes this stage physically demanding, but at the same time, it is a special experience in the highlands of Galicia.
