Bruck an der Leitha – Lake Neusiedl – Halbturn

Today’s stage on the Jerusalem Way is the last stage in Austria! This takes us from the centre of Bruck an der Leitha first to Schwadorf – a beautiful, varied route with great food awaits us today!

We once again pass through agricultural land, walk along a stream, and reach the famous Burgenland wine-growing region. For a while we even walk within sight of Lake Neusiedl! By the way, at the end of the village of Neusiedl am See, the route takes us directly over a Calvary hill – like a sign for us that we are on the right path to Jerusalem.

After that we reach the well-known wine village of Gols, and at the end of the day Schloss Halbturn is also on the programme, where the route leads right through the grounds. This is also the last stage destination in Austria on the Jerusalem Way, as Halbturn lies directly before the border with Hungary!

Tip: It’s a good idea to break up this rather long stage, e.g. in Neusiedl am See or in Gols, and split it over two days. That way you can take your time to soak up this special region, enjoy it, and also dive into its culinary delights. Because this section is completely different from the route through Austria so far.

Or if you’re on a tighter pilgrimage schedule and still have the energy, you can continue at the end of the stage from Halbturn across the border into HUNGARY (4 km). Immediately after the border crossing there is a small village with a restaurant, accommodation and a church. It’s lovely and quiet there – you can truly say that Hungary welcomes the Jerusalem pilgrim warmly, with the very first step. In this sense: Ultreia on the way to Budapest!
