The Jerusalem Way<\/strong> connects 19 countries with Jerusalem over approximately 8,500 kilometers.
Its main route coming from Spain passes through Germany in the “Little German Corner”<\/strong>. In addition, there are three feeder routes: the Jerusalem Way of Kings<\/strong> from Cologne, the Jerusalem Way of Apostles<\/strong> from Fulda, and the Jerusalem Way of Monasteries<\/strong> from Volkenroda. <\/p>\n

Like a river system, the routes gradually merge: Kings and Apostles meet in Donauw\u00f6rth and continue via Regensburg to Passau. There, the Monastery Way joins via Waldsassen, the Bavarian Forest, and the Ilz Valley. <\/p>\n

From Passau, all three routes continue together through Upper Austria to the Peace City of Linz<\/strong>, where they merge into the main route. From there, the Jerusalem Way continues via the Balkans and Turkey all the way to Jerusalem. <\/p>\n

The main route, originating in Spain, passes through Germany in the Small German Corner between Unken, Bad Reichenhall, and Marzoll. The actual German dimension is formed by three major feeder routes: the Jerusalem Way of the Kings starting from Cologne, the Jerusalem Way of the Apostles starting from Fulda, and the Jerusalem Way of the Monasteries starting from Volkenroda. These routes connect imperial cathedrals, monasteries, early Christian memorial sites, and places of reconciliation, gradually merging in Donauw\u00f6rth and Passau, and then continuing together to Linz, where they meet the main route. <\/p><\/div>\r\n\t\t\r\n\t\t\t+<\/span>\r\n\t\t\tImportant Information for Pilgrims<\/span>\r\n\t\t<\/a>\r\n\r\n\t\t

Germany is a network of routes. Jerusalem Way of Kings<\/h2>\n

The Jerusalem Way of Kings<\/strong> is one of the three major German feeder routes to the Jerusalem Way. The approximately 1,020-kilometer route leads from Cologne via Bonn and Linz am Rhein to Bingen, continuing via the Imperial Cathedrals in Mainz, Worms, and Speyer, as well as via Bad Wimpfen, Esslingen am Neckar, the Hohenstaufen, Schw\u00e4bisch Gm\u00fcnd, and N\u00f6rdlingen to Donauw\u00f6rth and Passau. <\/p>\n

The route follows the traces of ancient and medieval connections, early Christian dioceses, the Imperial Cathedrals of the Holy Roman Empire, and numerous places with historical ties to Jerusalem. Emperor Frederick Barbarossa and the tradition of Jerusalem pilgrims also shape the history of this route. <\/p>\n

In Donauw\u00f6rth, where a relic of the True Cross from Jerusalem is venerated in the Holy Cross Church and a
JERUSALEM WAY Peace Dove<\/strong> is located at the Peace Bridge, the Jerusalem Way of Kings merges with the Jerusalem Way of Apostles. Both routes then continue together via Regensburg to Passau. There, the Jerusalem Way of Monasteries joins. From Passau, all three German Jerusalem Ways continue together through Upper Austria to Linz and onward on the main route toward Jerusalem. Jerusalem Way of Apostles<\/h2>\n

The Jerusalem Way of Apostles<\/strong> is one of the three major German feeder routes to the Jerusalem Way. It begins at the cathedral in Fulda, where the tomb of Saint Boniface, the “Apostle of the Germans,” is located, and leads via W\u00fcrzburg, Rothenburg ob der Tauber, and N\u00f6rdlingen to Donauw\u00f6rth. <\/p>\n

The route follows the traces of the insular wandering missionaries who spread Christianity in Central Europe after the Migration Period. In W\u00fcrzburg, the route commemorates the missionaries and martyrs Kilian, Colonat, and Totnan. Rothenburg ob der Tauber is also called the “Jerusalem of Franconia”<\/strong> due to its history and medieval cityscape. <\/p>\n

On September 30, 2023, the Jerusalem Way of Apostles was ceremonially opened in Fulda. A JERUSALEM WAY Peace Dove<\/strong> was installed near St. Michael’s Church close to the cathedral square, oriented toward Jerusalem. <\/p>\n

In Donauw\u00f6rth, the Jerusalem Way of Apostles merges with the Jerusalem Way of Kings. Both routes then continue together via Regensburg to Passau, where the Jerusalem Way of Monasteries joins. From Passau, all three German Jerusalem Ways continue together through Upper Austria to Linz and onward on the main route toward Jerusalem. Total distance Jerusalem Way of Apostles Fulda \u2013 Passau: approximately 607 kilometers.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jerusalem Way of Monasteries<\/h2>\n

The Jerusalem Way of Monasteries<\/strong> is one of the three major German feeder routes to the Jerusalem Way. The approximately 600-kilometer route begins at Volkenroda Monastery in Thuringia and leads via the Green Belt<\/strong>, Waldsassen, the Upper Palatinate, the Bavarian Forest, and the Ilz Valley to Passau. <\/p>\n

The route stands for overcoming denominational and political boundaries and connects significant monasteries, churches, and places of reconciliation. Waldsassen with the Kappl, Waldsassen Monastery, and the JERUSALEM WAY Peace Dove<\/strong> lies almost at the halfway point; from there it is just under 300 kilometers to Passau. The town of Waldsassen and Waldsassen Monastery are partners of the Jerusalem Way. <\/p>\n

In the final stages, the route passes through the tourism region Ilz Valley & Three Castles Land<\/strong>. In Passau, the Jerusalem Way of Monasteries merges with the Jerusalem Ways of Kings and Apostles. From there, all three routes continue together through Upper Austria to Linz and onward on the main route toward Jerusalem.
