HUNGARY: GPS / route to BUDAPEST
GPS is available for all countries from Spain to Jerusalem!
The route is from Austria (Halbturn border) to Budapest about 258 km. The route from Slovakia (Esztergom border) to Budapest about 63 km. The routes meet in Budapest directly at a new large pilgrim hostel and continue together from there. The route from Budapest to the border triangle Hungary / Croatia / Serbia is about 243 km.
Mark: Many areas are marked, work is in progress on the general completion, so many sections have now been marked on the JERUSALEM WAY in more than 15 countries.
The GPS route from Budapest to the Croatia / Serbia border is available in the webshop. There are also further details on using the app.
Incidentally, in Budapest the GPS route also leads to the "Philosophical garden"The five world religions are represented there (see also this graphic). For the interreligious pilgrim an important place on the way to Jerusalem, the intersection of the world religions!
Note: For important information about the route in Hungary and the onward journey to Croatia / Serbia see below after the GPS stages.

Important information for pilgrims in Hungary
The route from the Austrian border in Halbturn often leads in Hungary in the area of the Jakobsweg, so there are hostels and other sleeping facilities for pilgrims to Budapest.
For the further route from BUDPEST towards BORDER CROATIA / SERBIA, we have a cooperation with the HUNGARIAN PILGRIMAGE Magyar Zarandokut (MZ). It was agreed that pilgrims could sleep cheaply in their hostels with the Jerusalem Pilgrim Pass. There are hostels along the entire route down the Danube from Budapest to the city of Baja. From Baja it is only a one-day stage to the Hungarian border town Mohács, the border triangle with Croatia and Serbia! And for pilgrims who do not come from Vienna but, for example, from Poland, the Czech Republic or Slovakia, there are also MZ hostels from Esztergom (Gran) to Budapest!
Accommodation / hostels
Here in German a short Summary of the accommodations (PDF). And here on the Hungarian website are all accommodations to be found (automatic translation by Google). In the winter months the hostels are usually closed in Hungary!
Our Hungarian partner would like every pilgrim to also have their Hungarian MZ pilgrim passport, this can be seen symbolically in the and every passport issued is important for their organization. The special price for pilgrims in Jerusalem is only 500 HUF = about 1,50 euros! The pass is also a good reminder and souvenir of the journey through Hungary.
In the small villages, it is good to send an SMS to the hostel the day before arrival, as they are sometimes closed, not at home or the person responsible has to open the house and therefore needs to know when the pilgrim is coming. Sometimes English is not spoken in small places, so it is good to master a few words in Hungarian:
Where's the albergue? = Get van a zarandoksalasch?
I am a pilgrim Zarandok vagyok
Where am i now = Get vagyok mosch?
I need help! = Shegicheget kerek!
