Description

We leave Geneva along the northern shore of the lake, so the first thing we have to do is cross the Rhone. We already made such a crossing a few days ago in France when we entered the “Rhône-Alpes” region. There behind us in the southwest, however, it already carried significantly more water. We briefly visit the district of Geneva on the right bank of the Rhone before we leave the city and also the canton of Geneva along the lake. We will meet and cross an exclave of the canton of Geneva shortly before the stage town of Céligny. So we spend most of this route in the canton of Vaud (French: Vaud). Along the lake we reach the restaurant “La Perle du Lac” through parks. From here you should take a farewell look at Geneva at the lower lake basin of the “Lac Léman”, the “Jet d'Eau” fountain is usually also in operation, one of the landmarks of Geneva. The north shore of Lake Geneva is characterized by a mild climate, making it a popular residential area and also a well-known wine-growing region. The first places outside Geneva in particular are popular residential areas for the “beautiful and rich” of the world, whether actors, top athletes or other successful and well-known representatives of humanity who spend their old age here, with a mild climate and moderate taxes. After these villages we usually hike through vineyards and other agricultural areas, with a view over the lake to the French Savoy Alps, simply a pleasure hike, apart from individual sections near railway and motorway routes. Shortly before Céligny at the Château de Bossey, we then hike through the aforementioned small exclave of the canton of Geneva, and then soon reach the stage location.
