Description
Today's stage is relatively short and leads us from the Broye valley in the canton of Vaud over a hill over to the Glâne valley, where the historic and picturesque town of Romont awaits us on a hill. Romont is then already in the canton of Friborg (French: Friborg). At the culmination point of this transition with a transmission mast, you have a unique view back into the Broye valley, south to Romont and the Alps, and westwards with a good view of the Jura heights. Romont has a long and varied history, from the establishment of a first settlement in the 10th century, to the first castle and fortified town, and to an important military base in the Swiss plateau in the 13th century. During this development, the owners changed several times, from the dukes of Burgundy to the Lords of Billens and the Savoy, etc. and finally to the Confederates. During this time, Romont was repeatedly damaged, rebuilt and renovated - today a fine testimony to the past.
