Description

Shortly after Villafranca del Bierzo was the Jakobskirche with the "Holy Gate". Jacob's pilgrims who then walked through this gate received the same absolution as in Santiago de Compostela, even if they no longer reached Santiago. With the way we still have to go to Jerusalem, however, such thoughts are still premature. The stage town of Ponferrada goes back to a Roman settlement, but was not developed into a fortified city until the 12th century by the Knights Templar. The lovingly and elaborately restored parts evoke a little bit of memories of Disneyland.
