Description

We hike another day in the Meseta today. Even though we have little shade due to the lack of trees, the remaining height of a good 800 meters above sea level helps us to get some cooling. Today's stage is shorter than the day before, so we have time to visit Carrión de los Condes in the morning, or Frómista after arriving at the stage. On today's stage we also walk longer sections along the straight road. Frómista goes back to Celtic settlements, but was destroyed in the course of the Moorish invasion of Spain and the area remained uninhabited for over a century, only in the 10th century did the settlement resume. The Iglesia de San Martin de Frómista is one of the oldest Romanesque churches in Spain with a very worth seeing three-aisled basilica (11th century). It later became part of a Benedictine monastery.
