Description
Between Interlaken and Brienz there is a pilgrimage route on the north and south banks. The alternative on the south bank was developed because the path on the north bank is occasionally closed in winter, which is less the case on the path on the south bank. For this reason we chose the Jerusalem Way along the south bank. Another reason is that this popular hiking route also passes the impressive "Giessbach Falls". If both ways are closed, there are still the liner ships. In Interlaken we cross the Aare, which flows from Lake Brienz to Lake Thun. Here we are in the middle of the Bernese Alps, on the right, for example, is the well-known Alpine summit trio Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. When we reach Lake Brienz, we turn north and then follow a lonely hiking trail via Bönigen and Iseltwald, mostly directly along the lake shore. Shortly before the Giessbach Falls we leave the bank and climb steeply to the waterfalls and the hotel of the same name, which can be reached from Brienz on a feeder road. Via Engi it goes back down to the lake and over the new and then the original Aare estuary over to the stage town of Brienz, which is known for its wood carving tradition.
