Description

After yesterday's short excursion through Germany, we are back in familiar Austria today. This stage takes us northwards to the motorway near the border, in Gois we have a beautiful view of the hill where the church stands with a pilgrim column and a little later the Laschenskyhof invites you to take a leisurely break, in good weather in the guest garden. We have been in the municipality of Wals-Siezenheim for a while now, it includes numerous localities and, with over 13.000 residents, is even considered the “largest village in Austria”. We continue as before in the greater Salzburg autobahn junction, later encountering the southern end of the runway at “Salzburg Airport WA Mozart”, which is also associated with the noises of planes taking off and landing, as we experienced similarly at Innsbruck. All of these transport routes are symbols of a city that is popular with business people and Salzburg is particularly popular with tourists. We'll meet them soon in the old town of Salzburg, where we also meet the Salzburg Cathedral and Mozart's birthplace. This stage does not end in Salzburg, but that does not mean that you are not allowed to spend the night here, because Salzburg has a lot, a lot to offer. The path continues along the Salzach northwards, first on the left bank, later on the right bank, where we meet the pilgrimage church Maria Plain after crossing a motorway on the Plainberg near Bergheim, another highlight of this stage. To continue on the pilgrimage, we go back a short distance on the same path, and then turn eastwards at the inn on the Plainlinde. So we reach the stage location Eugendorf via Berg and Hallwang.
