Description

At the beginning of this stage we will reduce the altitude that we gained the day before on the ascent to Chaumont, so our start will begin with long, expansive steps. The path we hike today is a popular regional hiking trail called «Balcon du Léman», where «Balcon» means something like terrace or balcony, and «Lac Lémann» is the French name for Lake Geneva. So we hike for a long time on the edge of a plateau from which we will always have an elevated view of Lake Geneva. The stage is again wavy and we will also have climbs ahead of us, we are still in the Rhône-Alpes region. Towards the end of the stage we will then gently reduce altitude. Today is also another day where we can enjoy the rural tranquility, because the metropolis of Geneva with the headquarters of many international organizations will offer exactly the opposite, namely hectic, urban activity. At Pomier it is worthwhile if we allow some time to visit the old Carthusian monastery (Chartreuse de Pomier). Finally, at the stage location Beaumont, we should also pay a visit to the village church of Saint-Etienne with a modern statue of Saint James.
