Description
Today's stage is deliberately a little shorter, so we can arrive at Wilhering Abbey in the afternoon. This gives us time for sightseeing, praying, meditating, washing clothes, etc. We start in Hörsching at Brucknerplatz or at the church. Go to Oftheringerstraße and come to Theninger Bundesstraße. At the end of the airport we pass an industrial park and reach the other side of the train tracks through an underpass. We walk along the railway, then turn left and now a dirt road / goods road leads us to Thurnharting. There we go down the hill, follow the markings and come to the road that leads to Hitzing. We go briefly to the right and immediately turn left again in the direction of Dörnbach.
In the village of Dörnbach we turn right at an inn and immediately afterwards see the lovely-looking pilgrimage church "Maria vom Guten Rat". From now on it goes uphill and the Jerusalemweg leads us through a large forest area (Kürnbergwald) and the Salzsteigweg until we finally reach the Prinzensteig. We follow the signs down to the left, shortly afterwards see the Cistercian monastery Wilhering and have reached the Danube. Link Wilhering Abbey
Important information: At Wilhering Abbey, the Jerusalem Way reaches the Danube for the first time and here is also an important junction! Because the feeder road coming from Passau (Germany) joins the main route here and connects to a common path. Link to route Germany
The Danube will accompany us to Belgrade, sometimes very close and sometimes from a distance. The longest river in Europe will be our "guideline" on the pilgrimage to Jerusalem for many weeks, about 5000 km are still ahead of us ...
Info for pilgrims: Ask at the gate in the monastery for the Jerusalem Way pilgrim stamp, the stamp was created in April 2024 and has a dove of peace! See photo attached and there is one Room for pilgrims - Please don't forget to donate! As mentioned at the beginning, we have some time today to visit the monastery complex, which is very worth it!
By the way, tomorrow we deliberately have a short stage again, this gives us time for the state capital Linz! We will need the time tomorrow, because Linz is European Capital of Culture and has been since 1986 City of Peace. There are therefore a lot of attractions, an additional day of rest should be considered.
VARIANT: A direct route to Linz would be possible (about 6 km shorter). We do not recommend this. This option is only for pilgrims who are in a hurry, you cannot get to Wilhering Abbey. Here click on the variant to open.
