Description

Waymarking Waymarking

Today the path leads us from the imposing "fortified church" Arbing via Baumgartenberg to the famous Clam Castle with the beautiful Klam Gorge and the village of Klam to Grein on the Danube. First we go down the short Kirchenberg, then a few meters left and then turn right into a forest path. We have a beautiful view of the Machland and then reach the villages of Frühstorf and Puchberg where we keep left at the end of the village and then turn sharply right into a field path at a wayside shrine. The path then leads across fields and through a small wooded area as far as the first houses in the Baumgartenberg community. Then it goes a bit in the vicinity of the B3 on a narrow asphalt road until we finally branch off to the left in the direction of Klam, but after about 100 meters keep right again to reach the village of Au via a dirt road. There it goes left into the so-called Klamschlucht to Clam Castle.

A wonderful stage lies ahead of us until we finally reach the old walls of the castle high up, where international concerts attract tens of thousands of visitors from the German-speaking area in summer. If we are lucky we can not only listen to a concert from afar but also stop off in the castle tavern. Then we reach the village of Klam, pass the church and turn right at the end of the village to reach the old city of Grein over the gentle hills of the Machland.

The day's destination is the town square with the fountain. Also worth mentioning is the Schörgi confectionery, with a beautiful view of the Danube, you can be pampered there. And there is one JERUSALEM WAY pilgrim stamp (with dove of peace as logo). Please ask in the restaurant about the stamp!

Tip: If you still have the time and energy, you can still make the ferry crossing over the Danube today and continue up to the 500-year-old Nadlingerhof. A very special place awaits the pilgrim up there! Ferry operating time is May to September from 09:00 to 18:00 (Contact details see here).

For an overnight stay or a pilgrim's stamp, call the Nadlingerhof in advance (underlay mat required). For details and contact, see the next stage.
