Rabanal del Camino – Astorga
From Rabanal del Camino, the path descends from the Montes de León through the traditional landscape of Maragatería to Astorga. Small villages, wide views, and the gradual transition from mountains to plains characterize this stage. Astorga was already an important junction in Roman times and is now known for its cathedral and the Bishop’s Palace designed by Antoni Gaudí. Here the Camino Francés meets the Via de la Plata coming from the south—an important European crossroads of pilgrimage routes.
