Today’s stage is intentionally a bit shorter, giving us the opportunity to explore Lambach Abbey at our leisure. Lambach calls itself “The Gateway to the Salzkammergut”; for us, it is the gateway to leave the Salzkammergut behind—a pity, we enjoyed it. Lambach Abbey in the town itself was founded in 1046 and has a rich history, too rich to be summarized here. And Lambach Abbey is the mother monastery of the world-famous Melk Abbey, which also lies on the Jerusalem Way and which we will reach in nine days. We should therefore take some time to familiarize ourselves with the most important sights and key points of interest.  

After Lambach Abbey, the Traun will now be our companion; the river accompanies us, so to speak, as we cover today’s route to Wels together—we walking, it flowing. The stage destination of Wels promotes itself with “Wels is located in the heart of Upper Austria and, with a total population of around 63,000 inhabitants, is an attractive business and employment location. Young and old are equally important to the city”. Let’s find out what the situation is like for pilgrims regarding accommodation and food.
