Flirsch – Zams

Today we will reach the Inn River near Landeck, and from there, the Inn and Danube will provide wide valley floors where pilgrimage routes can also find space. So, we will be spared constant ascents and climbs for some time. However, we will still have a hilly section ahead of us until Landeck. Here is some information about the attractions along the stage: Rosanna + Trisanna = Sanna: At the height of the Zintlwald, shortly before the Lärchkapelle, the Trisanna flows into the Rosanna. From then on, both are called Sanna and flow into the Inn near Landeck. Landeck Castle: Landeck Castle is located on the Via Claudia Augusta and was probably built in the first half of the 13th century by the Counts of Ulten on the towering rock above the Inn. Today, Landeck’s landmark is an important event and cultural center. Landeck Castle is not directly on the Jerusalem Way but can be reached in about 20 minutes. Schrofenstein Ruin: The ruin stands on a rocky outcrop, from which one can enjoy a magnificent panoramic view. The castle gets its name from the Schrofensteiner family, who also had the Landeck parish church built. The Schrofenstein castle ruin can be reached from Stanz via a hiking trail in about half an hour. Zammer Lochputz: This popular excursion destination offers dizzying insights into one of Tyrol’s most beautiful wild waters. Over centuries of work, the water has created the mysticism of the Zammer Lochputz gorge in Zams, and now, through the water adventure trail, everyone can penetrate the wild natural beauty via tunnels, paths, and bridges. Campanile Zams: Around 1440, the old parish church was rebuilt in the Gothic style. In 1911, a major fire destroyed most of the village; the church partially collapsed and had to be demolished. The reconstruction took place in a Baroque-inspired style, but not at the location where the church had previously stood, but slightly further west due to traffic considerations. Therefore, the tower, whose walls had withstood, now offers an unusual sight as a freestanding campanile.
