At the lighthouse of Cape Finisterre, the legendary “End of the World,” lies the westernmost starting point of the main Jerusalem Way route. For many people who have made the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela on foot or by bicycle, their journey ends here. For Jerusalem Way pilgrims, the path eastward begins. Those who wish to walk the entire main route have approximately 8,500 kilometers to Jerusalem ahead of them from here; alternatively, the path can be walked in individual sections. The route leads towards the sunrise – symbolically towards life – all the way to Jerusalem, one of Christianity’s most significant pilgrimage destinations and a crossroads of the three Abrahamic religions. From the lighthouse, the path goes through the fishing village of Fisterra, along sandy beaches and coves to Cée, with its sheltered natural harbor and good supply facilities. After that, the path leaves the coast and leads inland up to Olveiroa. In many sections, the Jerusalem Way follows the Camino Francés in the opposite direction: pilgrims come towards us, leading to new encounters every day.
