Description

The march from the Notre Dame Cathedral in Lausanne is quieter and more leisurely than the arrival. We hike uphill on roads with little traffic and hiking trails to the «Le Signal» viewpoint. From there we continue through a few suburbs of Lausanne to the culmination point of today's stage at Chalet à Gobet (a little north of the path). We can treat ourselves to a second breakfast in Chalet à Gobet. Up here we are not only at the culmination point of today's stage, but also on a European watershed between the Rhine and the Rhône. So fate can strike hard for raindrop friends, some come to the North Sea, others to the Mediterranean. In the descent we come to Epalinges, where we can eat again. Then we cross the Bressonne and tackle a steep ascent on a mountain range. We pass the pretty chapel “La Cure”, which was built into the gorge by monks in 1438. We reach the ridge at Preveyres. We hike on the ridge in the direction of Vucherens and enjoy the view not only of the Friborg Moléson but also of the Vaud Alps and, if the view is clear, even of the Savoy Alps. At Bressonnaz we come to «La Broye», which we follow to the Moudon stage. The Broye directs the precipitation from this area via the Aare and Rhine into the North Sea. From here through Central and Eastern Switzerland to the Arlberg in Austria, we will now stay in the catchment area of the Rhine. At the Moudon stage, it is worth visiting the well-preserved basilica.
