Description

With this stage we started for the last time in the Rioja region, because soon after leaving Logroño we come to the Navarre region - we are changing from one well-known wine-growing region to another. Navarre also lives from growing grain and grapes. Even today we will make good progress in slightly hilly terrain on long, straight paths. Viana is the first city in Navarre on our way and bears the historical title "Muy Noble y Leal Ciudad de Viana Cabeza del Principado de Navarra" (very noble and faithful city of Viana ...). In Torres del Rio we come across the Iglesia del Santo Sepulcro with an octagonal floor plan. Immediately afterwards follows Sansol, whose name is a simplification of the name of the martyr San Zoilo from Cordoba. The monastery of San Zoilo de Carrión de los Condes (where we stopped by a few days ago) used to have a “collection point” in Sansol. The most important sight in the stage town of Los Arcos is the parish church of Santa María, based on a Romanesque church from the 12th century.
