Description

Today it is worth getting up early to take a nutritious breakfast and take enough food and drinks with you. In front of us are the Cantabrian Mountains, which we will cross over at Cruz de Ferro. This culmination point will be the highest point we climb on the way to Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port in Spain, so it is even higher than the Pyrenees crossing. The hike is relatively flat to Molinasecca, then a steady climb begins through a lonely valley to the hamlet of El Acebo de San Miguel on the main road, where we will certainly take a break. Here we have made most of the ascent and then hike over the mountain ridge through a deserted pasture and forest landscape to the Cruz de Ferro. Then the descent begins, where in front of the stage town of Rabanal Del Camino there is only the small hamlet of Foncebadón, which nevertheless has a simple hostel and the rustic “Taberna de Gaia”.
